With over 150 locations throughout India, ASG Eye Hospitals are known for providing high-quality eye care nationwide. Recently, the cataract, oculoplasty and Q-Lasik specialists have welcomed yet another business into their healthcare family: Vasan Eye Care.

Prior to this partnership, Vasan Eye Care held the title of the largest independent eye care provider in India, with ASG coming a close second. Together, the unified businesses now form an eyecare behemoth capable of addressing significant services shortages across the continent.

Statistics indicate that more than 62 million people in India are living with a visual impairment. Furthermore, many conditions that contribute to India’s staggering visual impairment statistics can be cured or improved with treatment. The dire need for improved access to affordable healthcare is growing at an alarming rate. Fortunately, the team at ASG specializes in treating many of these reversible conditions, including cataracts (the clouding of the eye’s lens) and diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness in diabetics.

ASG was founded in 2005 by alumni of New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Science, Dr. Arun Singhvi and Dr. Shilpi Gang. The first ASG hospital was established in Jodhpur, with a focus on providing the highest quality healthcare and treatments to patients, regardless of their socioeconomic standing. Having witnessed firsthand patients, who put off seeking medical attention due to a lack of awareness, access, or insufficient finances, the ASG founders knew that an innovative approach to treating patients based on their circumstances was desperately needed in this sector.

A large part of ASG’s strategy to address disparities in affordable and high-quality healthcare is their ongoing commitment to establishing a strong presence in Tier 2 and 3 towns. The recent acquisition of Vasan Eye Care, based in Tamil Nadu, offered a fantastic opportunity to expand in the South, where a lack of affordable eye care is causing significant damage.

Having treated more than 550,000 patients over the past sixteen years, ASG has a wealth of experience to offer its new Southern India client base. Just like its recently acquired entity, Vasan Eye Care, ASG is known for pioneering new techniques and modernizing eyecare in India. These radical new procedures include Phacoemulsification (a specialized cataract treatment in which the lens of the affected eye is emulsified and aspirated) and the implantation of multifocal IOLs.

The largest independent eye care provider in India doesn’t simply treat vision loss, however. ASG Eye Hospitals have also seized on the importance of education and its role in preventing vision problems before they arise. Through community education at all their hospitals and a series of free and informative blog posts available on the ASG website, patients (regardless of economic status) can arm themselves with the tools needed to achieve better eye health.

Because of their shared commitment to education, innovation and accessibility, this merger between ASG Eye Hospitals and Vasan Eye Care will usher in a new era of improved eye health nationwide.
